The Saxon Hotel: A Luxurious Private Sanctuary

Located north of Johannesburg, the five-star Saxon Hotel welcomes its visitors with a blend of luxury, modernity and South African tradition. The history and subdued atmosphere of this spot make visiting it well worth the detour.

This distinguished hotel, with about fifty suites, three restaurants, six pools and a spa, was originally constructed as a private residence in the 1980s. Former president of the Republic of South Africa and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Nelson Mandela resided here while he was finishing his memoirs. In fact, one of the suites is named after “Madiba,” and several portraits of him adorn the walls of the establishment.
