The exhibition A Maze of Power presents a series of eleven portraits of African heads of state, in which American artist Kehinde Wiley goes beyond the simple contours of figuration to explore more deeply the notion of power and its representation.

Kehinde Wiley is well-known for his portraits that often feature ornate and decorative backgrounds, elements of which surround and sometimes weave around his subjects, the most famous one probably being President Barack Obama’s official portrait at Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC.
