Aïssa Dione, Visionary Weaver

Aïssa Dione, enjoying the elegance of her sixties, exhibits the delicate yet proud mien of the bygone Signares. For nearly 30 years, one thread after another, this Nevers-born, Franco-Senegalese textile designer has been skillfully weaving in the famous tradition of “made in Senegal” craftsmanship. From the Metropolitan Museum of New York to Lagosian concept stores, as well as luxury boutiques in Tokyo and Paris, her fabrics have truly conquered the world. Recently, we visited her shop in Rufisque, not far from Dakar.
